We arrived in Beijing around 10:30 Friday morning. It is hot, humid and smoggy here. Wags invited us to come visit him at the Paralympic village for the day so we showered and embarked on our first leg of what seemed to be the amazing race to find the village. You see the thing with the Chinese language is you can't even guess what you think people are saying. They either speak english or they don't and everyone we came across yesterday didn't. With that said I think we did a pretty darn good job getting through 3 subways and a couple busses on a few hours of sleep. It was well worth in because the village is an amazing place that I cannot describe you have to actually see it to believe it. It is a city in itself for all the athletes, coaches, trainers and volunteers. They have everything you could imagine inside. We ate dinner at the international cafeteria which left me feeling queasy but the visit was well worth it, and then headed back to our hotel for some much needed rest. Until tomorrow!

I'm happy to see you've made it there safe and sound. How is your hotel? And when does Wags play? Looking forward to your next installment. - Janet

Hi Janet.. Our hotel is fine, very minimal. Unfortunately we do not have a fridge and not much space for storage and clothes. However it has a bed and a shower which is all we have really needed so far;-)
Wags' first match is Tuesday! Thanks for keeping up.. I am also going to attatch my blog to David's website so stay tuned for the link!

Hey, guys..

Don't drink that water unless it's boiled, right?

In the Village, I guess there are athletes from all over the world? Sound exciting.... more exciting than going back to teaching at Mission Bay!

Good luck to Wags on Tuesday.

Hi guys,

It sounds like you've had quite an adventure already! I love the photos. Kim, you look like one of the athletes and Shane is the really good coach! David is looking great too. Wish him luck for us and we'll be watching.

How are the prices over-all? At least in Beijing, no one can complain that all of Walmart's merchandise comes from China! Ha ha!

Here Walmart displays the American flag but carries loads of stuff Made in China.

In a Walmart in China.... what do you find? Made in USA?....

Good photos & updates, fun to hear about your meal. Back in the dark ages when I was there, we were escorted everywhere, had to try hard to be on our own. How things change.

we haven't bought much other than food so far and it's relatively cheaper than the US. It also depends on where you are like any place, more touristy more expensive. Today we head to the Great wall and a Peking Duck lunch so I should have some good pics to post later :-) Thanks for reading!
